Hyundai Eon- a big package packed into a small car

The Korean automaker entered into the entry-level city car segment with the Hyundai Eon in 2011. India is proud of Eon as it was jointly designed with engineers in Hyderabad, India and Namyang, South Korea jointly at Hyundai R&D centers. The car was launched when India was getting over with the discontinuation of the sales-invincible Maruti 800 and BS-IV emission norms had started kicking in. Maruti Suzuki decided to continue with its Alto when Hyundai played the game and launched Eon with strategic pricing competing directly with Maruti Suzuki Alto and Chevrolet Spark.

Hyundai Eon Engine

The Eon has an 814-cc engine for ultra-light maneuverability in congested streets with maximum power of 55 BHP and a torque of 75 NM. The Hyundai Eon offers an ARAI approved mileage of about 21.2 km/l on highways which makes it pretty affordable and economical for the middle-class in India.

Hyundai cars have been a breath of fresh air for those who don’t want to shell out much money but crave for better fuel efficiency and styling. Hyundai Eon was placed below i10 bracket back then and is under the All-new Santro launched lately. In 2016, Hyundai Cars launched a special Kappa variant sporting a 1.0 litre engine of 998 cc generating a power of 68BHP of power with a peak torque of 94 NM at 6000 RPM. For those unaware, the rest variants of Eon are shipped with 0.8 litre engine. The Kappa engine is provided only in Era+ and Magna trims only which are included in the 11 trims offered by Hyundai for Eon.

Hyundai Eon Price

The Hyundai Eon is special for its affordability and lives true to its Santro spirit of being zippy and light. Hyundai Eon price for its base trim of Eon; D-lite starts from Rs. 3.35 lacs (ex-showroom Delhi) and goes way up to Rs. 4.65 lacs for the top variant of 1.0l Kappa (O) optional. One can see that despite the existence of 11 different trims, the difference between the base and top-end variant is nearly 1 lac which is commendable for a car company that manufactures cars worth Rs. 40-50 lacs too.

Hyundai cars have kept the safety parameters on its mind hence there is dual airbag present in front with an engine immobilizer and child lock. However, the airbags don’t come standard in Eon, but they can be obtained along with a load of features for an additional cost Rs. 60000 from the base trim and life is priceless isn’t it?
